Saturday August 1st 7:04 P.M.

Daddy has been pretty agitated today and uncomfortable. He keeps pulling at his trachea tube and scratching at his incisions. The critical care Doctor has assessed him and will now be assisting his regular Doctor with his care, he is also being monitored by his heart Doctor. A Respiratory Therapist is working with him and monitoring his breathing. He will be put back on the CPAP machine at bedtime tonight just to ensure that he is breathing properly through the night.

They did get Daddy up today and he made 3 trips across the room and then sat in the chair for about an hour. His blood pressure is under control, they are still working on getting his sugar under control and his blood oxygen level is staying above 90 on only 40% O2. The Doctor removed another drain from his chest this evening so he now only has the one drain left in his neck. They are hoping to remove that Monday or Tuesday.

His Doctor is a little concerned that Dad has gained 12 pounds of fluid since he's been in the hospital so he is taking him off the IV fluids. He is also taking him off the morphine and putting him on lortab that will be administered through his feeding tube. He's hoping that the lortab will control Dad's pain, but allow him to be a little more alert and awake. He is still pretty out of it and sleeps 99% of the time. The Doctor said that he's not out of the woods yet and that we will now have to start worrying about infections. A Physical Therapist is going to start working with him to try and get more of the fluid out and to help with his circulation.

Thank you to everyone that has brought food/snacks to the hospital and to everyone that has just come to sit with us. It means more than words can say. Thank you too for all the comments and well wishes posted on the blog. We are reading each and every one to Mom and once Daddy is awake and alert we will show all of them to him.

So glad that everything is going good for Roy, I know that once he starts getting up & moving the fluid will go away. Our prayers are with you all. Love, Laurie Ann
